    This painting has been updated with an additional Indian riding up the bank and a young boy looking back at him. I thought this brought the subjects together making for a better composition. My original objective was to depict an Indian Sioux camp along a river. For the landscape, I used a photograph I took from the Durango.

    Several years ago during a visit to Taos Publo we met Chief Morningstar and he posed for a few pictures. Since the lighting was low they came out a bit fuzzy. I did a recent scetche of him with a headdress, which turned into a painting.

    This is a local character who initially road his horse from Michigan to Santa Fe. I met him in Cerrillos, when he worked at a Broken Saddel Ranch, where he lived year round in a tipi. I took this shot as he was ridding into Madrid during their anual Christmas parade.

    This is the second painting I did of this character. The first was a side view, done in watercolor, titled The Street Fiddler, shown later in this book. I took several pictures of him at an outdoor art fair in Highland Park, IL. I loved his intensity and the character in his face.

    This painting won an Award of Excellence and the People's Choice at Albuquerque’s Enchantada Art Exhibit in 2014.I painted it from a photograph taken by Woody Minnich, while he was visiting Opuwa Eupua Namibia. Her red skin is actually red mud she uses as a form of celebration.

    Pinetop was Muddy Water's piano player, who started out as a guitarist, but injured the tendons in his arm during a fight with a chorus girl, so he switched to piano. At the age of 97, he became the oldest-ever Grammy winner. I painted this from a photo I took at the Chicago Blues Festival in 2008 when he was 95.

    Doc (Thomas Murray) was a Santa Fe Plaza fixture as he was typically perched on a park bench, always wearing the same outfit. I painted this on location for the 2014 Plein Air Santa Fe Event, which I won Award of Excellence for. Doc passed away in 2016.

I used a photo that I took in Playa del Carma, Mexico, of a street performer who was charging $10 for pictures.

    This was painted at an open space area off Juan Tomas Rd in the East Mountains of NM. The rock formation in the aaroyo was smooth from water flows and basicaly white, so my challenge was to make it look like rock and not snow. I think I achieved that.

    This was painted primarily on location at the private residence of Mrs. Herrera (wife of the late county sheriff's deputy Tomas Herrera), in Carnuel. Carnuel is a small town in Tijeras Canyon, where hwy 40 makes its way into Albuquerque. I loved the serenity of this scene with the old garage contrasted with the soft haze of the morning sun.

    This is a remake from a watercolor I did in my sophomore year at college. The original had the same character on a chessboard with a very large bishop lurking in the background. The concept was his carefree attitude in the wake of danger.
